Het biedt een schatting van de afstand tot het hoofd van de storm. Het ingebouwde bliksemalgoritme filtert menselijke verstoringen uit het inkomende signaalpatroon.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDaarnaast kan de AS3935 informatie over het geluidsniveau verstrekken en een externe unit (bijvoorbeeld een microcontroller) waarschuwen bij hoge geluidsomstandigheden, dankzij de geluidsvloergenerator en geluidsvloeiverbeoordelingsblokken.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eDe AS3935 kan worden geprogrammeerd via een 4-draads standaard SPI of IIC. Bij gebruik van IIC is het mogelijk om uit vier verschillende adressen te kiezen. Twee klokken worden intern gegenereerd door verschillende RC-oscillators: TRCO en SRCO. Een automatische procedure kan de precisie van deze oscillators verbeteren. De AS3935 kan worden gevoed door een interne spanningsregelaar of direct via
