Door gebruik te maken van 100 kHz kan de impedantie worden verwijderd met de formule 1 \/ (2 * pi * F * C). Hierdoor wordt de impedantie klein en kunnen we de ware serie weerstand meten. Een slechte E-condensator heeft een grotere ESR en creëert meer rimpeling in plaats van het filteren van lawaai. Normaal gesproken is een grote condensator groter dan 3 Ohm.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cp\u003eMet deze theorie kunnen we meten of de condensator slecht of beschadigd is, of goed functioneert. Onze ESR-meter is alleen van toepassing op minder dan 15mV DC of piek-naar-piek op een goede condensator, waardoor we het kunnen gebruiken voor in-circuit testen. Door deze lage testspanning kan de halfgeleider niet inschakelen tijdens het testen.
